2020 New Year’s Resolution Fitness Goals

After taking a break from running for a few years, my last year’s New Year resolution was to get back into running again. The first few weeks were brutal, waking up before the sun was out, having to wear extra layers, gloves, and a headlamp. But I got over that hurdle and the summer was much more tolerable. For 2019, I spent 128 hours running 905 miles (at an average pace of 8:29 min/mi)! That was a huge accomplishment, considering how little time I had during the day for anything else. I was hoping after running all of those miles, I would have been slimmer but what I think happened was that I simply stopped my body from getting bigger. My diet pretty much stayed the same prior to starting to run again. This year, I am going to continue running and exercising, but also be more aware of my diet. This will be tough because I never watched what I ate before, running in high school gave me a much bigger appetite, but because I was burning so many calories, it didn’t matter what I ate then. Now is much different as my body seems to be much slower at digesting food.
