The Las Vegas Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon
The Las Vegas Marathon has undergone some changes ahead of this years race, with a new date, a new course and a tightening up on security all amongst the changes for this years event. Last year saw more than 30,000 entrants take to the neon strip of Las Vegas. Known for its casinos, the strip takes on a very different appearance for this one day of the year.
With the race starting and finishing on the famous Las Vegas Boulevard, it is situated within walking distance of more than a dozen large casino resorts including Caesars Palace and Planet Hollywood casino. This year marathon runners will also pass beneath the downtown Fremont Street casino mall canopy twice instead of once.
With the time and date of the start being moved the day as a whole may have a slightly different vibe. Over the last 4 years the ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’ marathon has been held during the first weekend of December, however this year the event has been moved so not to clash with the heavily attended 10-day National Finals Rodeo at the Thomas & Mack arena. It is hoped the new November date will offer slightly warmer weather and so make it more enjoyable for participants who are running through the Las Vegas strip at night.
This year both the full and half marathon will start at 4:30pm, rather than at the usual staggered times, This will make for a much more crowded start to the race this year, but should in turn create a much better atmosphere at the start of the race. Live bands will again perform at each measured mile during the race, which has developed a reputation for attracting runners dressed as Elvis and participants marrying or renewing vows at a run-thru wedding chapel.
So if you wish to mix your passion for running with a love for casino sites like Gaming Club then maybe the 2013 Las Vegas marathon could be for you.
