Here’s What I Like To Do To Stay Fit & Healthy (Apart From Running)
Anyone that knows me will tell you how much of a running fanatic I am. In fact, you might have worked that out for yourself by following this blog! For me, though, running isn’t a way of life. It’s just a pastime that I enjoy, and it’s one that keeps me fit and healthy.
There are other things I do apart from running that form part of my exercise regime. Let me share with you some of my other favorite healthy living pastimes:
Cycling
On a beautiful clear day, one thing I enjoy just as much as running is to go out cycling. It’s a fun way to exercise, and you get to cover more ground than you would if you were running. That’s a useful thing if you’re cycling in a new location and want to take in most of the sights.
As any keen cyclist would tell you, there are some things that I take with me on any cycling adventure. Examples include water bottles, and a GoPro camera mounted on my helmet. I also make sure I carry a couple of spare custom bike jerseys just in case!
I own a couple of bikes – a mountain bike, and a tourer. The former is brilliant for cycling over rough terrain, and the latter is useful if I go on a long cycling trip.
Kayaking
When I get the chance, I like to go kayaking with some buddies of mine. It’s the type of pastime that only a few people will enjoy because it can be quite demanding at times. Even more so than running! Still, I recommend you give it a shot even if you’ve never done it before.
If anything, you can always tick it off your bucket list. And, at best, you may have discovered a new hobby to try out in your spare time!
Karting
Yes, I know, go-karting isn’t much of a way to lose lots of weight! But, like the other things I’ve mentioned so far, it requires a great deal of physical activity. That, and plenty of concentration!
As you can imagine, karting is a group activity, and so I usually do that with my friends and family. If you have a pro-health boss at work, he or she might treat your team to a day out karting somewhere! After all; it’s a good team-building exercise, don’t you think?
Swimming
When I’m not on top of the water, I’m sometimes found in it! Swimming is a hobby I’ve enjoyed for over ten years now, and it’s something my parents encouraged me to do.
I have to say that I’m glad they did! Swimming is also a fun activity you can do with your family, or by yourself, if you prefer some alone time. When you live in an area with a hot climate like I do, you’ll jump at any chance to cool down in the water!
