Sony Mobile SWR10 SmartBand Activity Tracking Wristband Review
Wearables. If that wasn’t the tech word of 2013, it definitely will be for 2014. Pebble was pretty big last year, I actually own one myself. Samsung came out with a few smartwatches and Google announced a smartwatch OS along with hardware products from LG, Motorola and Samsung (again). I think the rest of the world is waiting for Apple to finally come out with their rumored iWatch, but we’ll just have to wait and see what they bring to the table.
Fitness trackers have been around for a little bit longer. Two of the most well known brands include Fitbit and Jawbone. But Sony also has their own fitness tracker. The one I was able to theĀ Sony Mobile SWR10 SmartBand Activity Tracking Wristband. It’s a little bit different than the others in that the core part is detachable so you can swap out the different wristbands (by color and size). But what I liked most about the Sony SmartBand is the app that you installed with it. It is kind of like a life tracker in the way it noted things like when you performed certain functions on your phone like took a photo or browsed the internet, etc. Like other fitness trackers, it also measured your sleep and included a nice visual of a person sleeping when the SmartBand was idle for long periods of time. What I did notice was that it did not track when you were running very well. I usually do a one mile warm up at the gym but noticed the SmartBand did not get near that distance or even know I was working out. I think with improvements to the software and app, the Sony SmartBand will only get better.
