Watson’s Merino Long Sleeve Top & Long John Review
Whenever I think of wool I’m reminded of people complaining about getting knitted wool sweaters from their grandma for Christmas. They hated how they itched so much, but maybe they rather have a toy instead of something practical like clothes. Since I started running again the past few years, I’ve actually grown to love wool as a running accessory, specifically socks. They were always thicker to provide more support and prevent blisters while running. But they were never too warm and allowed my feet to breathe on those hot days out in the sun. I haven’t tried too many other products made of wool, but recently had the opportunity to review merino wool long sleeve top and long johns from Watson’s.
Now when I hear the word long johns, I picture the cartoons of characters wearing these long johns, with the flap in the back for emergency situations. The Watson’s merino wool long sleeve top and long johns, however, are definitely more for the outdoor individuals. These base layer items do a great job keeping you warm while participating in outdoor activities like skiing and snowboarding. To my pleasure, the top and bottom are made from 100% merino wool and would go perfectly with my merino wool socks! Both include the following features: superfine (18.5 microns), breathable and odor resistant.
Some other information about merino wool:
- The finer fiber has better elasticity and flexibility, making garments less itchy and improving comfort.
- Its effective moisture management reduces the opportunity for odors to develop.
- Breathes by maintaining the balance of moisture between itself and the surrounding environment. Its fibers constantly absorb and release moisture from the inside to the outside of the fabric.
Fortunately, the weather in San Diego does not warrant the need for baselayers very often. But I do like to go snowboarding, so the next time I make a trip up to Big Bear, I’ll definitely make sure to pack my Watson’s merino wool long sleeve top and long johns!
Disclosure of Material Connection: I received Merino Long Sleeve Top & Long John for free from Watson’s as coordinated by Deep Creek PR an Outdoor Retailer Public Relations Company in consideration for review publication.
